Savior on Capitol Hill?

No, I don’t believe Barack Obama is the messiah, despite that accusation coming from my evangelical-Anabaptist and straight-up Republican friends. But I do believe he is the best hope for a political windchange in Washington, D.C., and that’s why I’m supporting his candidacy for President.

In that spirit, I want to recommend to you a great new song from Derek Webb’s new album (available for free on NoiseTrade). Check out this fun music video and then grab the code and post on your website to help this thing go viral!:

Just face it. The man is anointed to lead.

He is certainly a messiah in the literal sense. šŸ™‚ I mean c’mon. Like Aaron and David and King Asaph. Not as important as those guys (yet – who knows?) but a vessel of God’s blessing (like you and every other Christian). The difference between this man and others, though, is that he bears the anointing of leadership. To cal him “antichrist” is certainly foolish in light of what Jesus labelled the “sin against the Holy Spirit”.

But it doesn’t matter if you call him a messiah or not. God’s favor shapes his destiny…not what you and I choose to or not to call him. It is wise, in fact, to avoid such categorizations, since our culture detests anything that smacks of pretension and hubris. He is just a man who God has shaped to lead. But…as a dork of Jewish history…yep…he pretty much fits the bill of messiah.
