What’s Next?

For the past two and a half years, I’ve had the privilege of working with an amazing team of people based in St. Louis and a growing family of authors who have inspired and challenged me (and so many others) through their incredible work. Friday, August 19 will be my last day working with Chalice Press (a.k.a. the Christian Board of Publication).

What is next for me? I’m not quite sure.

For the past 10 months, I’ve been living more and more into my calling as the Pastor of Social Justice and Activism for Missiongathering Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) here in Charlotte, and I’m excited to be a part of the Missiongathering Movement, led by my dear friend Rich McCullen. I’ll be preaching this Sunday (7/31) on racial justice. If you’re in the area, I hope you will join me! If you’re not in the area, please consider watching via livestream video through the MGCLT Facebook page.

My passion for mobilizing people of faith and communities of faith toward broader movements for social change continues through the work of Transform Network, founded six and a half years ago. I’m also looking forward to returning to Greenbelt Festival in the UK again this year (August 26-29), thanks to my partner in life and in the work of Transform, Holly Roach.

And while I’ve been working behind the scenes in support of authors for the past few years, my own writing has essentially been on hiatus. I’m feeling like the time has come to return to one of my first loves. I have some things to say. So expect to be hearing more from me here at Knightopia and some of my other online outposts (especially my Facebook page, which you should “Like”!).

As the tagline on my recently redesigned website states, one of my biggest passions is media, technology, and the future of faith. Having served in Web communications and social media for the past 20 years, I believe, as Kevin Kelly writes about in his new book The Inevitable, that we are still just at the very beginning of this new era — and besides a small handful of theologians, most people of faith have not really begun to grapple with the implications of what is happening now and what is on the horizon. Because of my background and experience and passion for new media, I am rededicating myself to the work of curating information about these trends and interpreting what I see happening for anyone who will listen.

If you’re reading this, thank you for your attention. It is more valuable than any paycheck you could offer me, so thank you! (But seriously, about that whole paycheck thing, if you know of any job opportunities you think be a great fit for me, please let me know!)
